Pretty Phantom of the Opera
pretty phantom of the opera

There's a whole back story behind this drawing, so I need to tell it here. When I saw the 2004 film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," I was immediately struck by how much actor Gerard Butler looked like one of my "pretty people." Especially in that scene where he's leading Emmy Rossum down the hallway, he just had a look that reminded me of the sort of faces that I draw. And that was pretty cool, because it's not something I often get to see.

Well, I figured since the film version of "Phantom" had gone with "pretty," I could too. So, loosely inspired by Gerard Butler, I did my own masked Phantom. This drawing is not supposed to resemble the actor, really. I didn't refer to any photos of Gerard Butler (or of anyone else) while I was making the sketch. But I tried to emulate the "feel" I got from the film in this, my own version of a "pretty Phantom." Drawn in pencil.
